Blood viscosity is an important determinant of local flow characteristics, which exhibits shear thinning behavior: it decreases exponentially with increasing shear rates. One of the well-known hemorheological parameter is blood viscosity. Blood viscosity depends on plasma viscosity, hematocrit, and the ability of red blood cell to deform and aggregate under specific hemodynamic conditions. The effects of transfusion on the rheological properties of blood in sickle cell anemia were studied in 15 patients.
